Annual Scouts and Guides Rally 2019

The Scout Association of Malta and the Malta Girl Guides have once again teamed up to organise the Annual Scouts and Guides Rally. On Sunday 28th April thousands of young people aged between 5 and 26 together with their adult leaders, will be marching through the streets of Valletta, celebrating another year of Scouting and Girl Guiding in Malta. The newly appointed President of Malta H. E. Dr George Vella and patron of both associations will be taking the salute in front of the Presidential Palace in St George’s Square.

The North District Scouts and Girl Guides will be leading the rally according to the following programme:

0830 – Triq Sarrija will be closed for vehicular traffic
0845 – Arrival of the North District Scout groups and Girl Guide units to attend mass at the Phoenicia Hotel

0845 – All invited MPs, VIPs, National Scout Council, Girl Guides Council and National Board, The Trefoil Guild and the Scout Fellowship will be ushered to their reserved seats

0900 – Mass will be celebrated by H. G. Bishop Mgr Paul Cremona, together with the national chaplains of both associations

0930 – Arrival of all other Scout Groups and Girl Guide Units at the Floriana Granaries
1045 – Marching off will take place in the following sequence: North, Scout Fellowship, South, Central and Gozo1100 – His Excellency the President will take place on the dais to take the salute in front of St George’s Square

As in previous years, the groups will march through City Gate, down Republic Street and pass by the palace throughSt George’s Square. The rally will then turn towards Archbishop Street and up Merchants Street. Dispersal of groups managed by volunteers will take place near Auberge de Castille.

As the patron of both national associations, His Excellency President George Vella will be taking the salute of passinggroups in front of the Presidential Palace in St George’s Square. All groups will be marching in full uniform behind thecolours of the Maltese, Scouting and Girl Guiding flags.

The Scout and Girl Guide associations would like to take the opportunity to thank all stakeholders involved in assisting in the organisation of this annual national event. A special word of thanks goes to the Malta Police Force,

whose officers go beyond the call of duty to cater for the associations’ needs and provide logistical support free of charge, the St John Ambulance brigade for standby first aid assistance, the Floriana and Valletta local councils for the relevant permits and Transport Malta for rerouting of vehicular traffic.
