Lidl Malta continues its commitment to tackling food waste and supporting the local community, with a €3,000 donation to Caritas Malta. This initial contribution comes after the successful launch of the Company’s Food Saving Bag initiative in December 2023. This initiative restores value to fruits and vegetables that are imperfectly shaped, but are still perfectly good and safe to eat, or with slightly damaged packaging and involves all 10 local Lidl stores.
Each Food Saving Bag is filled with a handpicked selection of 4 kilograms of perfectly edible fruits and vegetables that may have slight cosmetic imperfections or slightly damaged packaging. Despite these minor appearances, the produce inside remains fresh and delicious. These value-packed bags come at a discounted price of just €3, making them a great way to stock up on fresh produce while minimising food waste.
“We are incredibly proud of the positive response to our Food Saving Bag” said Owen Micallef, Lidl Malta Director, “Not only are we reducing waste, but thanks to our customers’ support, we’re also able to give back to the community through Caritas Malta, a vital organisation that provides essential services to those in need.”
The €3,000 donation signifies the first of many to come. Lidl Malta pledges to donate €0.50 from every Food Saving Bag purchase to Caritas Malta, with future contributions happening every six months. This ongoing commitment demonstrates Lidl Malta’s dedication to creating a positive social impact alongside its efforts to minimise food waste.
