• Glass bottle night collection from bars and restaurants announced

The Nirriċikla għall-Istrina nationwide campaign by GreenPak Coop Society Limited, urging households, schools, local councils, companies, entities and social clubs to collect plastic bottle caps for l-Istrina, has donated €21,000 to the Malta Community Chest Fund. GreenPak Coop Society CEO Ing Mario Schembri presented the donation to the President of Malta H.E. Dr George Vella at San Anton Palace in Attard.

The donation is in return to the number of plastic bottle caps collected for recycling during the 2019 campaign, which caps would have otherwise ended in Malta’s landfill. 

HE President George Vella said “This initiative has two key objectives – to educate children on the protection of the environment and to make them aware of charitable causes. I thank GreenPak for their yearly commitment to collect plastic bottle caps from schools and various entities, while I’m also grateful for their donation towards L-Istrina.” 

Meanwhile, as part of its recycling commitment, GreenPak announced its daily night service schedule for the empty glass bottle collection from bars and restaurants in selected localities. This service has been extended to cover also Paceville and St George’s Bay area. 

The free daily service is resuming for the festive period for bars and restaurants situated along the seafront in Gzira from Manoel Island, passing through The Strand, Qui-Si-Sana, Tower Road, Balluta Bay, Spinola Hill in St Julians, up St Andrew’s Road to St Augustine Street to St George’s Bay and around the various streets in Paceville. The service collects empty glass bottles and glass jars only.

The daily service starts on Saturday 21st December 2019 from 01:00 hr and ends on Friday 2nd January 2020. It is held in collaboration with the Local Councils of Gzira, Sliema and St Julians, together with the Cleansing Services Department. 

“We operate our own glass collections seven days a week from 1.00am during this busy period. This service is being extended to entertaining establishments in Paceville and St George’s Bay,” said Ing Mario Schembri.  

GreenPak adapts its glass bottle collections according to busier periods, such as at Christmas time and the summer months.  From Saturday 4^th January 2020 the service will then continue on weekends (Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays) only.

GreenPak Cooperative Society, which runs the largest waste recovery system in Malta, operates the monthly service of its door-to-door glass collection from households and commercial outlets on the first Friday of the month. In Gozo, the same glass collection service is operated every first Thursday of the month. 

Nirricikla għall-Istrina and the Glass Collection are two of several campaigns undertaken by GreenPak to promote recycling, make positive impact on the environment, and help to reduce waste from landfill
