Believe and achieve – Dingli Girl Guides open their new Head Quarters

‘Believe and achieve’ is the name of the new headquarters for the Dingli Girl Guides. The premises were officially opened this morning. This year is extra special for the group as it is also celebrating their 15th year anniversary. The headquarters were officially opened following thanksgiving mass at Dingli Parish Church and a short parade to their new home.
The Dingli Girl Guides started in 1999 by Rita Schembri who worked with the Malta Girl Guides (MGG) to set up the Guide group. So in November of that year the 19th Dingli Girl Guides were officially opened.
Over the years the group grew from strength to strength, overcoming many obstacles that any local NGO has to endure. Today it is one of the MGG’s strongest groups.
Many girls and young women have had the privilege to be part of the Dingli Girl Guides and have grown up to be responsible women who are contributing to society today. These young women have accomplished a lot in both their careers and private lives. This brings satisfaction to all the volunteer leaders who dedicate a lot of time and energy to run the group on a voluntary basis.
The Dingli Girl Guides would like to thank all the ex-guiders that volunteered their time in the past, all the parents for their support, their families, especially their husbands/boyfriends for understanding that Girl Guiding is like a second family.
“As adult Girl Guides we keep volunteering because we gain experience and training, it is fun and make new friends. Guiding gives us a sense of pride and satisfaction knowing that our non-formal educational programme is making a difference in the life of many girls and young women. Finally as leaders we form a bond that lasts forever as we say, we are sisters in guiding, and once a guide always a guide,” said Joyce Schembri, one of the Dingli adult leaders.
A special appreciation goes to his Parliamentary Secretary Dr Ian Borg who believed in the Dingli Girl Guides’ cause and supported their group in making their dream come true.
