Melita Foundation supports Paulo Friere Institute’s computer courses
The Melita Foundation is funding a series of computer courses being organised by the Paulo Freire Institute throughout this summer. The courses, designed for those with no prior experience of using computers, are available for senior citizens and vulnerable members of the community and will take place at the Institute’s premises in Zejtun.
Prof. Tanya Sammut Bonnici, Chair of The Melita Foundation, said, “The Paulo Friere Institute has, over recent decades, empowered hundreds of vulnerable people through its education, counselling, and community-based programmes. The Melita Foundation is also focussed on helping everyone in society benefit from technology and we are therefore more than happy to support these computer courses which will help those who attend to begin acquiring the skills to improve their lives.”
Fr Edgar Busuttil SJ, Director at the Paulo Friere Institute, said, “Computer literacy is so important in today’s world. It’s essential to stay in touch with loved ones and in our working lives. Our Institute has always worked hard to listen to the needs of the vulnerable in society and to provide practical support that can make a difference. This is just what these computer courses are designed to do and we are grateful to The Melita Foundation for their support which is helping us to run multiple courses during summer.”
