CELTA courses opens door for EFL careers

Attending the internationally-recognised CELTA teacher training course at IELS Malta gives you an all-access pass to teaching English anywhere in the world.

The CELTA is a level 5 qualification designed for those with little or no English language teaching experience as well as more experienced teachers. All applicants are interviewed prior to acceptance on the course.

“As someone who had never taught English before, I found the course a challenging yet rewarding experience that helped me to grow not only as a teacher but also as an individual,” said CELTA graduate and teacher of English at IELS Malta Laura Stanley.

The CELTA course consists of training sessions delivered by expert Cambridge-certified trainers, observations and teaching practice in a real teaching context. A variety of teaching techniques, methodologies and approaches are covered during the course providing the essential knowledge and skills needed to teach English. Sessions take the form of workshops, seminars and tutorials, encouraging trainees to gain a self-sufficient and autonomous approach to learning with both written and practical assessment.

Course participants follow experienced teachers with specific observation tasks to guide them and aid reflection upon their personal approaches to teaching. Participants experience an intensive yet highly practical and rewarding learning experience. Trainees have the opportunity to put knowledge into practice, reflect on their behaviours and refine their teaching techniques. Group feedback helps participants develop awareness and creativity which, in turn, supports development and fosters motivation.

The course is ideal for people looking for a change of career, recent graduates, teachers looking to build on their current skills, those looking to start in the English language teaching profession or even those wishing to combine English teaching with travel.

Tina Anastasi, another CELTA graduate at IELS Malta said: “Despite having taught for six years before doing the CELTA, the course broadened my awareness and I developed as a teacher. It opened doors to work and travel.”
