As from April 2015, the community of Naxxar will be on course to improve its environmental credentials after the Local Council decided to migrate to GreenPak. Naxxar residents are already reaping the benefits with Ms. Joanne Catania receiving the 3,000^th ‘Irriċkla u Irbaħ’ GreenPak goodie bag.

GreenPak is the MEPA authorised scheme operated by GreenPak Coop Society.

Thanks to the implementation of GreenPak’s superior waste separation infrastructure, which include amongst others the provision of free recycling bags to every Naxxar household, the installation of recycling banks, and the introduction of new kerbside collections active even during public holidays, the Naxxar Local Council aims to reach the national target performance of 60% of the total generated recyclable waste in the locality.

GreenPak Coop Society CEO Ing. Mario Schembri said: “GreenPak’s core philosophy revolves around the need of continuous education and awareness about recycling. To this end, GreenPak will be rolling out an educational campaign in Naxxar and at the same time offering its expertise to the Local Council on how to effectively inform its residents. GreenPak will also take it upon itself to distribute free green recycling bags to encourage even more recycling.”

The Mayor of Naxxar Dr Maria F. Deguara said: “Over the last few years, the locality of Naxxar experienced rapid growth in its population and is fast becoming a hub for commercial enterprises. While we welcome this development, it is imperative that we think ahead of what this expansion will entail. GreenPak, with its in-depth knowledge and professionalism, will help us manage our waste better and improve our community’s environmental objectives through sustainable and feasible ways.”

GreenPak Coop Society is a MEPA authorised scheme and is a founding member of EXPRA, the European organisation promoting producer responsibility schemes internationally. GreenPak is also backed by PROEurope, an umbrella organisation of 35 national producer responsibility systems engaged in the selective collection and recycling of packaging waste.
