Malta Trust Foundation reaches10,375 vulnerable children in 2024

More than 10,300 vulnerable children and adolescents received transformative support last year through life-changing social projects delivered by The Malta Trust Foundation.

In 2024, the Foundation implemented 12 social projects, designed to address some of society’s pressing needs, ranging from mental health and educational assistance to creative arts therapies, family support, and community inclusion initiatives.

These programmes helped 10,375 children and young people, many of whom come from vulnerable or marginalised backgrounds, according to the 2024 Impact Report presented during this morning’s annual general meeting.

“Through its targeted and multidisciplinary approach, the Foundation continued to provide safe spaces, promote resilience, and open pathways to wellbeing, education, and personal development,” Foundation chair, President Emeritus Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, said.

Central to this work is a dedicated team of 44 professionals, including psychologists, counsellors, family therapists, music and arts therapists, social workers, and family support workers.

Their combined efforts led to 82,712 interventions and sessions throughout the year, an increase that reflects the growing demand for the Foundation’s services and the trust placed in its programmes by families, educators, and frontline organisations

The Malta Trust Foundation was set up 10 years ago, during Ms Coleiro Preca’s Presidency to support vulnerable children and young people by providing opportunities that nurture their potential and wellbeing. Through partnerships with professionals, civil society organisations, private entities, and community stakeholders, the Foundation delivers projects that address mental health, education, empowerment, and social inclusion.

Its aim is to introduce sustainable operations backed by strong governance. Throughout 2024, the Foundation’s total operational and salary investment amounted to €1,724,603, underscoring its commitment to financial transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of resources entrusted to it by donors, partners, and supporters.

Speaking at the AGM held at Dar Saura in Rabat, Ms Coleiro Preca expressed deep gratitude to the Foundation’s partners, professionals, volunteers, and supporters, emphasising that the results achieved in 2024 reflected the power of collaboration.

“Our work continues to reaffirm a fundamental truth: when society comes together to empower our most vulnerable children and young people, we build not only brighter futures but a stronger and more compassionate nation. The Malta Trust Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to ensure that every child and young person, no matter their circumstances, is given the opportunity to flourish.”
