Guiding is an opportunity – Guiding is my choice
The Malta Girl Guides is joining the 10th anniversary celebrations of World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) 2015. The special day which is celebrated on 21 March, celebrates the voice of people with Down syndrome, and those who live and work with them.
The MGG marked the day with a photo shoot with the theme Guiding is an opportunity – Guiding is my choice, in line with the theme of WDSD 2015, My Opportunities, My Choices – Enjoying Full and Equal Rights and the Role of Families. The photos are going to be used in a week long social media campaign via the MGG’s Facebook page.
The MGG members with Down Syndrome have access to same opportunities of other girls and young leaders to enjoy the association’s non formal educational programme as any other member. The young adults stretch their potential of learning new skills and experience leadership through their work with the younger sections. These members join their peers in any challenge including going to international camps abroad.
A group of MGG young members also wore odd socks to raise awareness about Down Syndrome and WDSD 2015. Appreciation of diversity and collaborative teamwork are key elements of the guiding programme. Guiding is a girls’ association open to all irrespective of religion, colour, culture or disability.
