Youths hone athletics skills through Skolasport programme

Every Saturday morning, at the #OnTheMove Skolasport centre in Mosta, a group of aspiring children and youths train hard in the sport they love – athletics. During each athletic session, the participants perform different types of exercises, which help them raise their physical attributes, self-esteem, confidence level and at the same time provides enjoyment.

“For the majority of young athletes, it is their first-hand experience in a sport. Skolasport endeavours to give participants the right exposure to the various disciplines athletics has to offer both on track and in field. Since the start of this programme, back in October 2015, the participants enjoyed various athletics events including the use of starting blocks, jumping events and throwing events,” said Reuben Baldacchino, Head Coach at #OnTheMove Skolasport, Mosta.

“The participants have shown good progress throughout the course. We continuously stress the importance of regular practice, coupled with a healthy lifestyle as an essential base for every sport,” he added.

#OnTheMove Skolasport, organised by SportMalta and sponsored by Kellogg’s, is holding two 75-minute sessions in athletics every Saturday morning between 9.00am to 10.15am and 10.30am to 11.45am at the Maria Reġina College, in Mosta.

The #OnTheMove Skolasport is the starting point for many Maltese children and youths in their discovery and enjoyment of sports and active lifestyles. This is why Kellogg’s, the world’s leading producer of breakfast cereal, is the official sponsor of Skolasport for the past 16 years.
