Shattering beauty stereotypes with Dove
Dove, the UK’s number 1 skincare anti-perspirant brand has recently launched Project #ShowUs, the first publicly accessible photo library to shatter beauty stereotypes by showing women as they are, not as others believe they should be. The photo library was created by women and non-binary individuals to offer a more inclusive vision of beauty to all media and advertisers.
“Research shows that 70% of women still don’t feel represented in media & advertising,” said Kim Borg, from George Borg Ltd., local distributors of Dove. “Dove understands how unrealistic images of beauty impacts women worldwide, hence Project #ShowUs. As local distributors for Dove, we would like to be part of this revolution and we’re asking women in Malta who want to be a part of this project to get in touch with us. We want to break beauty stereotypes and are asking you to become part of the change to add to this image library.”
Research carried out by Dove shows that women around the world feel there is limited diversity in how women are portrayed in images on the various media and through Project #ShowUs these women are redefining beauty on their own terms. For over a decade, Dove has been working to make beauty a source of confidence. Project #ShowUs is Dove’s most ambitious project to date and a big investment that is triggering meaningful change at a societal level.
Project #ShowUs is part of Unilever’s commitment to UN Women’s Unstereotype Alliance – a cross-industry global initiative which uses the power of advertising and media to free the world from harmful stereotypes that hold back people and society.
