Melita launches VoLTE roaming in worldwide destinations
Melita Limited has launched VoLTE roaming for its mobile customers travelling in Australia, Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium and Switzerland, with more countries set to go live in the coming weeks. This rollout marks a significant upgrade in mobile voice quality for customers who use VoLTE when abroad. VoLTE is already live on Melita’s mobile network across Malta and Gozo and this international extension will enable higher-quality voice calls both at home and while travelling. Additional destinations will continue to be added as part of Melita’s ongoing commitment to delivering seamless connectivity worldwide.
VoLTE, or ‘Voice over LTE’, is a technology that allows voice calls to be made over 4G or 5G networks instead of the traditional 2G or 3G networks. The result is crystal-clear call quality, faster call setup times and improved coverage.
James Spina, Melita’s Chief Technology Officer, said, “Melita is committed to delivering the best mobile experience to our customers, locally and internationally. The introduction of VoLTE roaming is another step forward in our efforts to provide modern, high-quality mobile services and prepare for the future as legacy network technologies are phased out.”
To benefit from VoLTE both in Malta and while roaming, customers must ensure their mobile device supports VoLTE and that the feature is enabled. Instructions on how to activate VoLTE are available on Melita’s website.
