Malta Girl Guides hold online elections to elect new Chief Commissioner and national board

The Malta Girl Guides Association (MGG) has elected a new national board led by a newly elected Chief Commissioner, Stephanie Anastasi. Ms Anastasi will follow in the footsteps of her predecessor, Claire Duff. Given the extraordinary circumstances we are currently living in, the MGG took the plunge and for the very first time held these elections for all adult volunteers online.

Ms Anastasi has been a member within Malta Girl Guides from the age of 5, when she joined as a Dolphin Guide. She occupied numerous roles within MGG, with her last one being that of South District Commissioner.

Ms Anastasi said, “Our association owes a lot to its adult volunteers who, through our fun and adventurous programme, provide challenging opportunities which promote leadership in girls and help them to discover their own potential whilst making a positive difference to the community. I feel honoured and privileged to have been given the opportunity to lead the Girl Guiding family onto new horizons and I will strive hard to ensure MGG keeps on being a relevant movement where each girl and woman is valued, empowered and given a voice. Guiding has given me the confidence not only to dream, but to do. Guiding values have shaped me into the woman I am today. Guiding has empowered me and thousands of other girls along the years to push our aspirations and boundaries, and to never give up on our dreams. As Chief Commissioner for MGG, hand in hand with all members within the association, I will endeavour to keep such values high, and to continue to make the world a better place.

Following the online elections, Ms Anastasi will be joined by Cheryl Bilocca as Training Commissioner and Jeanelle Camilleri as International Commissioner, together with Gaby Meli, who was reconfirmed as Programme Commissioner.

At district level, all the districts elected new team of district commissioners – Analise Scicluna and Chantelle Galea for the Central District, Gwen Gatt and Elizabeth Mizzi for the North District and Rachel Aquilina and Stephanie Caruana for the South District.

Furthermore, the new Chief Commissioner has appointed the following members in non-elected roles – Maureen Amoroso and Carmen Elina Camilleri as Deputy Chief Commissioners and Andrea Grima as Island Secretary.

Malta Girl Guides president Karen Buttigieg thanked the outgoing Chief Commissioner and National Board members for their commitment and hard work during their term of office. She also wished the best of luck to the new National Board.
