Thomas Van Tonder in Malta

South African Thomas van Tonder, one of the big stars of obstacle course racing and a Guinness World Record breaker is coming to Malta to select and train his own team for the upcoming Grid Main Event in May.
Thomas van Tonder has experienced a meteoric rise to the top of obstacle course racing (ORC). The South African athlete started racing OCR in 2013 and finished second in his first race. Within three years he’d turned pro. Fast forward to 2019 and – among many other wins – Thomas has won 17 Warrior Black Ops Elite races and the National Championship and Series Championships in 2016 and 2018 (he was runner up in 2017). He’s also competed in four OCR World Championships and placed in the top 10 three times and during the enforced break in 2020, Thomas decided to try something different.

“I’m really excited to come over to Malta to meet the local OCR community and everyone involved. It will be a true honour to share the knowledge I have accumulated over the last 9 years of racing all over the world. I have heard a lot about the OCR athletes in Malta, and these are going to be some truly exciting times,” said Thomas Van Tonder as he’s heading to Malta next week.
“Selecting a team to train with me is hard, but I am looking forward to seeing what hidden talent comes from this. See you soon,” continued Van Tonder.
Registrations for the team selection remain open till Wednesday 13th April and one can register on the website thegridmalta.com/ida-thomas/
