The IGM paid tribute to the memory of entrepreneur George Fenech, the Chairman of the Tumas Group who passed away yesterday at the age of 63.
Mr Fenech was head of a group of companies which had been set up by his father Tumas Fenech, which have contributed a great deal to the economy of the country through considerable investment and the creation of hundreds of jobs in the hospitality, real estate and automobile industries.
George Fenech was also instrumental in convincing his siblings to set up the Tumas Fenech Foundation for Journalism Education which over the years has organised several journalism courses and introduced other initiatives to help this sector.
Each year this Foundation has also sponsored the Gold Award which is given by the IGM during its annual press awards to a journalist who has distinguished himself in this field.
The IGM expressed its condolences to Mrs Fenech, her children and the rest of the Fenech family during this difficult time.
