MALTA MEDITERRANEAN LITERATURE FESTIVAL

Inizjamed is organizing the fifteenth edition of the Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival, with a difference. The Festival will be held at Fort St Elmo between Friday, 28th and Saturday, 29th August.

Five authors will be the special guests, together with two bands. CORE GREEN Organic & Fair Trade will be providing drinks, while Mallia & D’Amato will be manning the bookstall, with works from the invited authors and others.

The authors participating in this XVth edition are Miriam Calleja (Malta), Jan Carson (Ireland), Leanne Ellul (Malta), Itisha Giri (Nepal/Spain), and John Portelli (Malta). Readings will be mostly in Maltese and English, but some short works will also be read in their original language. The two invited bands are Dominic Galea Jazztet, who will be accompanying Adrian Grima’s poetry and Kym.

Since seats are limited to less than 100, admission will be against a ticket which can be acquired at www.showshappening.com. Some readings might have mature themes.

Miriam Calleja will be holding an online workshop with the students at SkolaSajf, while Jan Carson will be holding a short-story masterclass online on the same days of the Festival.

Inizjamed is organising this Festival with the support of the Malta Council of Arts and the Cultural Partnership Agreement. The Festival is also collaborating with Literature Across Frontiers, Creative Europe and l-Għaqda tal-Malti – Università. This Festival has been given an international accreditation through the EFFE Europe for Festival, Festival for Europe trademark. The Festival is also part of the Phoenicians’ Route recognised by the Council of Europe and the EU COSME project for cultural tourism TRAMES.

The Festival logo and other promotional material were designed by Miguel Cachia (Panda).

Security will be a priority. Seating will be set up in a way that it ensures social distancing and limited to below 100, in a space that according to the new rules can allow up to 240 persons.
