‘Water Management for Urban Greening’ on the agenda of a two-day workshop

Jobs in the water sector provide stable employment, meaningful careers, technical training, important technical skills and a chance to make a real difference in our country. Exploring water as a career choice and learning more on water in urban greening. were two of the main subjects discussed during a two day workshop, titled ‘Connecting The Drops: Circular Water Management for Urban Greening’ on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th April 2023.
These interesting and informative workshops were organised by The Energy and Water Agency, in collaboration with University and MCAST. The event was held at Esplora Interactive Science Centre at Bighi and it served as a good opportunity for students to interact with young local and foreign professionals working in the water sector, work in a team with students from different academic backgrounds and learn to pitch ideas in front of judges.

On both days, numerous NGOs, representatives from local councils and different ministerial representatives attended the event. Interested students and recent graduates had the chance to learn more from people working in the water and urban greening sectors and exploring practical challenges to integrate rainwater harvesting and grey water reuse for urban greening. Over the course of two days, students engaged in the FIRST DeepDive Challenge Hackathon, focusing on integrating rainwater harvesting and greywater reuse for green urban areas. Guided by experienced mentors, participants from diverse professional and academic backgrounds collaborated in teams to develop practical solutions. Their ideas were then pitched to a panel of local and international water professionals, who served as judges. It was an exciting opportunity for innovative thinking and collaboration in the pursuit of sustainable water solutions.
The first day of the workshop commenced with an introductory speech by Mr Manuel Sapiano, CEO, Energy and Water Agency. The latter introduced the topic of Circular Water Management for Urban Greening and emphasised that “the scope of this discussion is to move towards a comprehensive approach hence this is why a thorough discussion is needed with the participants.”
One of the main highlights of this seminar was a panel discussion about “The Local Water Scenario” with the contribution of various individuals representing various stakeholders. For both days, two well known TV presenters and moderators, Ian Busuttil and Ashley Peschel, hosted the seminar. The event also featured the participation of various speakers and presentations related to the scope of this two-day workshop.
No doubt, this event was another opportunity for the campaign team members of ‘Water Be the Change’ to display and distribute related merchandise items to all participants.
