HSBC helps Ħandaq Secondary overhaul its irrigation system

Students of Ħandaq Secondary have started reaping the benefits of water-conservation projects they initiated with the support of the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop.
Under the ‘Let’s Catch the rain drops for a greener school’ campaign, the students made the case to overhaul the school’s irrigation system to a new automatic drip irrigation system. Steps were also taken to harness the power of rainwater.
Further, artwork created by students of Ħandaq Secondary featured at a water-related exhibition held at the Presidential Palace during the World Water Week 2015.
During a ceremony to celebrate the school’s achievements, headmistress Mary Montebello noted that what started as a project submitted to the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop has grown to include more activities that incorporate water conservation messages. HSBC has also sponsored wrist bands in seven different colours and seven notice boards shaped in the form of water drops. Present on the occasion were MEP Therese Comodini Cachia and HSBC Malta CEO Andrew Beane (pictured above with the students).
