Innovation Exchange initiative will boost Malta’s entrepreneurial community
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), through its local Community Officer, has launched The Innovation Exchange, a new initiative to boost Malta’s innovation ecosystem and ensure it continues to play a central role in achieving the Government’s Vision 2050 objectives. The Innovation Exchange, launched in collaboration with BusinessLabs, will serve as a national forum where entrepreneurs, start-ups, policymakers, academics, investors, and community stakeholders come together to discuss the challenges facing innovators and co-develop practical solutions.
By fostering collaboration, the initiative aims to accelerate sustainable economic growth, enhance social wellbeing, and drive the transition towards a more resilient, knowledge-based economy.
The first phase of the project features a series of targeted workshops taking place in September and October. These sessions bring together diverse voices from across Malta’s innovation landscape to identify obstacles and opportunities, shaping a collective agenda for action. The workshops cover three priority themes: Smart Growth through Innovation, Innovating for a Greener Future, and Empowering Communities through Social Wellness Innovation.
Insights from these workshops will feed into a public forum planned for the end of the year, where stakeholders will be invited to engage in open discussions on solutions. This final stage will act as a launchpad for collaborative projects and policy recommendations aligned with Malta’s long-term development strategy.
Speaking on the initiative, Diana Miceli, EIT’s Malta Community Officer, said: “Malta’s innovators are already showing remarkable creativity and resilience. With The Innovation Exchange, we want to create a space where their ideas can be heard, their challenges addressed, and their solutions scaled for national impact and international reach. This initiative is about forging stronger connections—between government and business, research and practice, citizens and innovators—linking Malta’s ecosystem more closely with the wider European innovation landscape.”
By uniting Malta’s innovation stakeholders around shared priorities, The Innovation Exchange seeks to ensure that innovation becomes not only a driver of economic growth, but also a cornerstone of social and environmental progress.
