The National Commission for the Promotion of Equality (NCPE) has awarded Argus Insurance Agencies Limited (Argus) its equality mark certificate for nurturing equal treatment at the workplace.

In order to be awarded the Equality Mark certificate, employers need to show a commitment towards; implementing an equality and sexual harassment policy, taking measures to ensure equal opportunities in recruitment and employment practices, as well as in career and personal development opportunities and appointing an employee as an equality representative. They also need to commit to implementing family friendly measures and work life balance options for men and women with caring responsibilities, monitoring the way new systems or policies may affect male and female employees and ensuring that any goods or services supplied and/or managed by the organisation are equally accessible to male and female clients.
NCPE Commissioner Ms Renee Laiviera, said, ‘This certification is based on evidence of a true commitment by Argus Insurance Agencies Limited to implement relevant gender equality policies and practices as well as family friendly measures at the place of work and in the access to and provision of goods and services.’
Argus Chief Executive Dr Vanessa Borg said, ‘Argus continuously strives to improve its people-related strategies aimed at achieving continuous improvement and the effective management of talent. A fundamental building block of this strategy is effective performance management complimented by an array of family friendly measures. These help staff to achieve a much better work–life balance. This has proven to be beneficial both for Argus, in terms of increased performance levels, and the employees. Besides having introduced the concept two years ago of having our staff utilise their sick leave when their kids are unwell, we have recently added an additional 5 days of sick leave for employees with immediate family dependencies to be utilised in cases of family emergencies. By introducing these policies, besides other family friendly measures, Argus has not only earned a strong employer status, but also believes it is contributing towards better communities and the society in general.’
The Award was presented to Argus by Social Dialogue Minister Helena Dalli at the 12th Annual Conference of the NCPE.
