As part of its corporate civic community engagement initiatives, Debono Group has recently extended its support to the Żebbuġ Scout Group in its activities to empower children and youth and to foster leadership skills through scouting activities.

Debono Group sponsored a group of Rovers aged 20-23 who spent ten days traveling in Austria and Slovakia as they took part in the Explore Belt Challenge which aims to provide young people with firsthand experience of a foreign country. The challenge leads participants to experience the way of life of the country they choose to visit and to develop an understanding of its culture and people, while simultaneously honing their social competences and mastering other important skills such as budgeting, travel, navigation, cooking, camping and teambuilding.

During the expedition, the group covered a distance of 250km as they hiked their way to their destinations or made use of different means of public transport, providing them with ample opportunities to sample daily life and to meet other people. They also had the chance to meet other scouts, sample local cuisine, and to visit locations of natural beauty and cultural heritage sites in both Austria and Slovakia.

Debono Group and the Żebbuġ Scout Group also embarked on a joint initiative to plant trees in one of the locality’s vallies, Wied is-Sewda, as a symbol of their deep-rooted connection to the well-being of the community, and to contribute to a greener and healthier environment in Żebbuġ.

Debono Group has been based in Żebbuġ since its origin in 1952 and developed a close affinity with the locality throughout its 70-year history and three generations of family leaders. During this time, Debono Group has supported various initiatives, groups and events in the Żebbuġ community.
