€1,500 donated to l-Istrina following successful DHL Express plane pull
Charles Schiavone, Manager of DHL Express Malta, and Orlando Bonnici, President of Phoenix Sports Club, on Wednesday presented a cheque for €1,500 to the Malta Community Chest Fund at SanAntonPalace, Attard, in aid of l-Istrina.
Over 120 people, including Opposition MPs and MEP candidates, turned up last Monday for Plane Pull Malta at the Safi Aviation Park, organised by DHL Express in association with the Phoenix Sports Club.
Over €1,200 were collected on the day since each person who took part was asked to donate €10 to l-Istrina. DHL Express then rounded off the figure.
“We are extremely satisfied with this first event in which a DHL Express Boeing 757-200 Freighter aircraft was pulled at the Safi Aviation Park, with six teams pulling the aircraft a total distance of 120 metres,” Mr Schiavone said during the presentation. “We plan this to be an annual event and ensure that, with due notice and the right timing, we can do even better next year.”
Both Mr Schiavone and Mr Bonnici thanked all those involved, including those in the Office of the President, Malta International Airport and the Armed Forces of Malta, plus all the volunteers.
A spokesman for the Office of the President said this first Plane Pull Malta event, organised jointly by DHL Express Malta and Phoenix Sports Club had raised an impressive amount and praised and thanked all those who contributed.
