Emirates, one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, has re-affirmed its commitment to the Royal Malta Golf Club (RMGC), which is celebrating its 125th anniversary. The sponsorship strengthens Emirates’ commitment to golf in Malta. Furthermore, Emirates will be the title sponsor of the Emirates Cup which will be held on Tuesday 11th June 2013.

Paul Fleri Soler, Emirates Malta Manager, said: “Emirates congratulates RMGC for this great achievement. Not many golf clubs in the world can take pride in having such an esteemed  history spanning 125 years. This is further attested by the fact that several golfers from as far away as New Zealand, Australia and Canada as well as from Europe will be participating in these tournaments. We have entered into this sponsorship with RMGC to support golf and its growth, a sport that has been associated with Malta since 1888.”

“Emirates has been connecting golf enthusiasts with major golf tournaments, such as the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai and the Australian PGA Championship. We look forward to RMGC’s centenary celebrations and to a successful Emirates Cup tournament,” he added.

Dr David Debono, RMGC Captain, said: “This is wonderful news for the Royal Malta Golf Club. Emirates is well known for being one of the world’s premium airlines and a leading supporter of golf tournaments across the globe.”

“We anticipate that the RMGC centenary programme will be one of the biggest ever, with players arriving from overseas.  We have already received confirmations of attendance from golf clubs in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK,” added Dr Debono.

Over the past two years, the RMGC has been taken up with the building of the new clubhouse and significant improvements were made to the golf course. These major projects are now ready in time for its celebrations.

The Emirates Cup will be one of the main events of the 125th anniversary programme. The activities will be held between the 9th and 15th June 2013.

As a leading supporter of golf tournaments across the globe, Emirates was the official airline of 18 events in 2012, as well as the official partner of the European Ryder Cup Team.
