Winners of Malta Journalism awards

The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) yesterday evening announced the winning journalists in the 24th edition of the Malta Journalism Awards in a ceremony held at The Palace Hotel, Sliema, and which saw the company A.X. Holdings collaborate for the fourth consecutive year with the Institute of Maltese Journalists in this annual activity during which those who work in journalism are rewarded.

During the ceremony, an independent jury, presided by President Emeritus Dr George Abela as Chairman, together with Frans Ghirxi and Vanessa McDonald announced that Joe A. Vella, with a career spanning more than  30 years and a founder and Secretary of the Institute of Maltese Journalists for more than  15 years, as winner of the Gold Award.

President Emeritus Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, Chairman of the Tumas Fenech Foundation for Education in Journalism, presented the Gold Award to Joe A. Vella. This honour is awarded to the nominated individual who, according to the Jury, went beyond the normal, practical requisites in journalism during his/her journalistic career.

Another independent jury was appointed by the IĠM to evaluate the submissions for the Malta Journalism Awards. This was composed of Michael Caruana as Chairman and Carmel Callus and Aleks Farrugia. This is the full list of winners:
