THE MALTA JOURNALISM AWARDS

The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) has received 70 submissions from local journalists and other media professionals, who are taking part in the 24th edition of the Malta Journalism Awards (MJA). Submissions are currently being adjudicated by the three-person Jury, and the IĠM will announce the finalists on Monday, 24 March, 2014, during a ceremony to be hosted by The Farsons Foundation in Mrieħel.

The IGM organises these awards on an annual basis. There are 16 categories in this year’s awards: Print Journalism – News, Print Journalism – Features, Press Photography, Broadcast Journalism – Television Script, Broadcast Journalism – Television Features, Broadcast Journalism – Film, Broadcast Journalism – Radio, e-Journalism, Travel Journalism, Cultural Journalism, Sports Journalism – Print, Sports Journalism – Broadcasting, Sports Photography, Opinion Articles, Environment Journalism and the Maltese Language in Journalism Award.

Each category is sponsored by a different company or organisation. The sponsors are HSBC Bank Malta plc, The Farsons Foundation, the Broadcasting Authority, SmartCity Malta, the Malta International Airport plc, the Malta Tourism Authority, the Good Causes Fund, GreenPak Coop Society Ltd, the Sammut Family and il-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ilsien Malti.

The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, 3 May, 2014, at The Palace Hotel, Sliema.

During the evening, the Gold Award for outstanding contribution to the journalism profession that goes beyond the normal call of duty will also be awarded. This category is sponsored by the Tumas Fenech Foundation for Education in Journalism (FTFEĠ).

Submissions for this year’s edition of the Gold Award are to reach the IĠM offices by Friday, 28 February, 2014.
