Public thrilled at seeing Coca-Cola bottles transform into cool objects

The public, visiting Science in the City in Valletta last weekend, was amazed at how recycled Coca-Cola plastic bottles can actually become desirable items – from mobile phone covers, to toy boats, bracelets, keychains, vases and other items at the touch of a button of the EKOCYCLE Cube 3D printer.
The EKOCYCLE printer was introduced for the first time in Malta by GSD Marketing Ltd, local representatives of The Coca-Cola Company, during the Science in the City annual event. Last year, GSD participated in the festival with a live exhibition of the science behind the manufacturing of a soft drink bottle.

This year, GSD brought to the Maltese public the highly innovative EKOCYCLE Cube 3D printer which has been creating hype across the world for its capacity to transform recycled PET, from Coca-Cola plastic bottles, into different objects. The portable printer is practical and user-friendly enough to have and use at home.

EKOCYCLE was the invention of Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am, together with The Coca-Cola Company, to motivate brands to make things partly from recycled materials and make sustainable living cool.
“It was such a satisfaction as local representatives of The Coca-Cola Company to see so many people attracted to our stand to see with their own eyes the EKOCYCLE printer in action, transforming recycled Coca-Cola bottles into objects they like and hold them in their own hands” said Stephen Bonnici, Public Affairs & Communications Manager of GSD Marketing Ltd. “Children, adults and scientists alike asked all sort of questions on how this innovative machine is changing people’s perception about recycling converting waste into new objects.”

The brain behind EKOCYCLE, global musical artist and producer Will.i.am, has been quoted as saying “Waste is only waste if we waste it. With the EKOCYCLE brand, I’m on a mission to educate and inspire consumers around the globe to seek out more sustainable lifestyle choices that will ultimately play a part in the movement toward a world with zero waste. The Coca-Cola Company shares this vision and together, working with local communities worldwide, we will showcase the greater value of recycling, as well as selecting products that feature recycled materials.”
