Debating Academy 2013
Following a successful Public Speaking Academy in February 2013, students over the age of 16 are being offered the opportunity to join the English-Speaking Union’s DebatingAcademy. This three-day course will run from Thursday 18 April to Saturday 20 April between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The programme sees participants unite into groups of three students per team, all from the same educational establishment. During the Academy, participants will be trained in the kind of professional debating that challenges individuals to speak their voice and to form well-researched, objective positions on a number of serious or light-hearted matters.
The sessions are split into three intensive mornings that include the participation of high-profile personalities, who are able to mentor the students through their past experience. A select few will also be debating against well-known local personalities.
Furthermore, the Academy includes informative workshops about the nature of debating and the different styles used, challenging activities and interactive exercises.
ESU’s DebatingAcademy is a unique opportunity to develop skills that will prove useful throughout both Maltese students’ professional and personal lives. It will help complete their education in a more holistic and proactive manner than is usually possible during their daily activities at school.
The Academy is being offered at €75 per team. Registration for the Academy is open on a first-come first-served basis, as the number of participants is limited.
