In keeping with a cherished LifeCycle Malta Foundation tradition, participants in this year’s LifeCycle Challenge were received at San Anton Palace by the President of Malta, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono.
The meeting took place in the main courtyard where the cyclists and their back up team gathered to receive the President’s encouragement and well-wishes before they leave Malta for Botswana on 25 October. As in previous years, the participants cycled to the Palace during a stopover in one of the final group training sessions, with this year’s event occurring during the penultimate session.
In addition to their individual training, participants engaged in a rigorous 17-week group training program in preparation for this year’s LifeCycle challenge – a demanding 2,000-kilometer cycling journey from Botswana to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, to be completed within an ambitious 10-day period.
The President personally congratulated the cyclists and the rest of the team on their dedication, and ackonwledged the arduous challenge they will embark on in aid of kidney patients as well as to support medical research and increase awareness related to kidney disease.
LifeCycle Malta founder and chairman Alan Curry commented: “We are grateful and honoured to have met with the President before embarking on the Challenge. This meeting not only serves as a source of encouragement for us but also helps raise awareness about the prevalence of renal disease. It conveys a message of hope, perseverance, and endurance, demonstrating how empathy, determination and community effort can significantly improve the lives of renal patients.”
Now in its 24th edition, the LifeCycle Challenge, organized by the LifeCycle (Malta) Foundation, has made an impressive impact since the first edition in 1999, becoming an annual landmark event in Malta’s sporting calendar. Over the years, the LifeCycle (Malta) Foundation has successfully raised close to Eur4 million since its inception in support of renal patients, contributing to medical research and raising awareness about renal disease.
