LifeCycle Malta Cyclists fly to Botswana and South Africa Challenge

On Friday afternoon, the LifeCycle Malta team waved goodbye to the Maltese shores as they departed for Botswana, setting the stage for the epic “Journey of Good Hope.” The team’s flight marks the exciting commencement of the 2024 LifeCycle Challenge, a tough 2,000-kilometer cycling quest to the Cape of Good Hope, which will officially kick off on October 28th in Gaborone. The Challenge is expected to span 10 days, with intense cycling through varying terrains and climates.
An atmosphere of positivity and excitement was clear among the group at the Malta International Airport as they checked in for their flight and said their goodbyes to family and friends who came to see them off. The cyclists and their support crew, each person keenly aware of the significance of their mission, handled their preparations with a disciplined efficiency. Despite the underlying difficulty of their feat, smiles and cheers were exchanged in a blend of purpose and optimistic anticipation that always mark the beginning of every challenge which promises to test their limits but also make a meaningful impact on kidney disease research and patient support.
Alan Curry, founder and chairman of LifeCycle Malta, shared his thoughts at the airport send-off as he captured the spirit of the occasion, stating, “We carry more than our bikes today; we carry hope and determination across continents for a cause greater than ourselves – easing the suffering of kidney disease patients.
The team trained hard for the past 17 weeks and is looking forward to the unknown conditions that the diverse landscapes of Botswana and South Africa have to offer. This will not only be a test of physical endurance but remains a profound commitment to raising awareness and funds for renal health. The team will face everything from the arid expanses of the Kalahari Desert to the lush scenes along the Garden Route, finishing at the iconic Cape of Good Hope.
Support for the 2024 Challenge is strong, with Nescafé returning as the main sponsor, together with Hili Ventures, Smart Technologies Limited, Laferla, JPA, GasanMamo Insurance, APS Bank, Agora Estates plc, Valletta Waterfront and Crane Currency.
