The Hospice Malta Children’s Summer Club 2013 is underway, offering care and support to children with family members or guardians receiving Hospice Malta’s services. The club provides the children with education activities and play time with new friends, which offers much needed respite to the entire family.

Coordinated by Hospice Malta social worker Ms Gloria Spiteri, and facilitated by a group of volunteers, the club’s 10 week programme brings children between the ages of 5 and 12 years together for cultural outings, swimming, various crafts such as pottery and cookery, and other fun activities.

“The children’s club is now in its 15th year. Positive feedback from families motivates us to continue building upon the club’s programme of activities, all of which is made possible thanks to support from HSBC Malta Foundation’s generous contribution,” said Hospice Malta General Manager Kenneth Delia.

“Hospice Malta carries out a vital role in the community, offering professional care and support. The children’s club is a good example of Hospice Malta’s success at providing holistic support with the entire family in mind”, said HSBC Malta’s Head of Corporate Sustainability Josef Camilleri. “The club is always coming up with innovative and practical ways to help children whose loved ones are facing the realities of serious illness”.

Hospice Malta is a voluntary, ‘not-for-profit’ organisation that offers palliative care for persons with cancer, motor neurone disease, end-stage renal and respiratory diseases, and heart failure. Hospice Malta cares for over 900 patients and their families every year.
