St Michael Hospice project enters final stages of completion
Hospice Malta is pleased to announce that the St Michael Hospice project is entering its final stages of completion. The newly refurbished building will become the main premises for Hospice Malta and is expected to help further enhance the already established palliative community services with the addition of In-Patient Services and enhanced day therapy services, for a more comprehensive approach to palliative care. The Hospice’s educational wing will also be enhanced, opening many opportunities to exchange expertise with other Hospices across Europe and beyond.

Within the in-patient unit, rooms are designed to provide all necessary medical care in a calm and peaceful environment, spacious enough for relatives to accompany the patient when needed. Patients will be utilizing this section for short term stays, according to set admission criteria. St Michael Hospice will also have large outdoor gardens and yards that are being transformed into serene relaxation areas for patients to make use of.
The new premises will include offices for the Hospice team, bringing all professionals, management, and all members of the team under one roof. Additionally, the education center will further enable Hospice to host conferences, as well as educational training sessions, as the venue will be equipped with cutting-edge audio-visual technology and connectivity, with the capacity to host up to 140 delegates. The center will also be available for use by other organizations.
All Hospice services are free of charge. However, Hospice Malta seeks assistance from individuals and businesses to enable our operations to continue serving those who need it most. Persons who would like to support the St. Michael Hospice Project can donate or get in touch to learn about how one can make a tangible difference.
A case in point of the generous altruism by community members, is Ms Linda Fryer from Gozo, who last year teamed up with Hospice Malta for a campaign called ‘Live it Now’, bringing together monetary support from the UK to South Africa to the United States, and involving over 400 people from Gozo and Malta including children and staff from two middle schools, local businesses and local artists who all supported the three major fund raising events. Ms Fryer’s initiative won her a nomination for the first edition of the Pride of Gozo Awards, which acknowledges selfless residents of Gozo who are going out of their way to help their community become a better place. Through this campaign, slightly over €16,500 were raised.
Kenneth Delia, Hospice Malta, CEO, thanked Ms Fryer for her support and for the generous amount raised through the events held. Noting that this cause is close to heart to Ms Fryer, Hospice Malta CEO said, “this is why the funds, such as those raised by Ms. Fryer and the Gozitan community, are critical in supporting Hospice’s new project, specifically for patients and the relatives accompanying them in these difficult moments, within the Inpatient Unit.”
Ms Fryer shared her enthusiasm for Hospice’s newest project, saying: “It is truly heartening to see first-hand the St Michael Hospice project just a few steps away from opening its doors to start servicing the community. As someone who has Hospice’s mission close to my heart, I would like to encourage others to follow suit in organising fundraiser events and actively contribute towards supporting the NGO to be able to continue serving those who need it most.”
Hospice Malta is encouraging individuals, organisations and the business community to continue donating so that it can be a position to finalize this flagship project and open its services to the community.
