Outcomes and recommendations

SOS Malta in partnership with the Public Broadcasting Services Ltd (PBS) and the Institute of Maltese Journalists (IGM) participated in a project, “Media InterAct”, co-financed through The European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals.

Media InterAct was a one-year project running from July 2011 till June 2012 and its overall objective was to initiate an avenue for mainstreaming the diversity and integration of third-country nationals (TCNs) within the media in Malta.

This project has now come to its end and a report has been published by SOS Malta that includes information about the Media InterAct project, its three pilot initiatives, a summary of the project’s research findings, and a set of recommendations addressed to the media and government that can contribute towards promoting and mainstreaming cultural diversity in the media in Malta.

This report can be found at www.sosmalta.org/mediainteract and is entitled “Media InterAct Project: Outcomes and Recommendations”.

The findings, outcomes and recommendations that came from the Media InterAct project show ways the media can promote more positive messages, cultural assets and life experiences of non-Maltese living in Malta and how doing this can contribute towards an increased sense of open-mindedness and understanding of diversity in Maltese society and a smoother integration process.
