Website dedicated to Brother Louis Camilleri, FSC on 10th anniversary of his death

Saturday, 29 May, 2021, marked the tenth anniversary of the passing away of Brother Louis Camilleri, FSC, and to mark this very special occasion, the Core Group launched a website dedicated to him, which can be viewed at http://www.brotherlouiscamillericauseforbeatification.org/. Bro. Louis was a Brother of the Christian Schools, a Lasallian Institute that was established by St John Baptist De La Salle in the 17th century in France.

The first Brothers arrived in Malta in 1903 and established the two major schools, De La Salle College in Cospicua and Stella Maris College in Sliema. Both colleges moved to larger premises some years later. Bro. Louis taught in both colleges. In the last years of his life, he established the local branch of the Signum Fidei Association, an international fraternity of lay people dedicated to the charism of the Founder.

In 2015, a Core Group, under the direction of Brother Saviour Gatt, was set up to gather information on the life and work of Bro. Louis. The Core Group was assigned to look after the promotion of the Veneration of Bro. Louis, five years after his death, as this is the time prescribed by the Church to initiate the process for Canonisation.

On 31 March 2019, Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna introduced the Cause for Bro. Louis’ Beatification by decree, and declared him ‘Servant of God’ at a ceremony held at St John’s Co-cathedral in Valletta, which was thronged to capacity by the Brothers, led by Brother Rodolfo Meoli, FSC, Postulator General of the Institute, teachers and parents of pupils in the Lasallian Colleges in Malta, members of Signum Fidei, former students and the public.

This is a long process, which starts with the documentation of the life and virtues of this holy Brother, who served the Church and the Institute of the Brothers so faithfully and zealously. At present, the Maltese archdiocese is recording testimonies from witnesses who knew Bro. Louis and were inspired by his holiness.

The Group is responsible for distributing information about Bro. Louis and spreading his devotion. The Group is also engaged in the gathering of any graces obtained through the intercession of Bro. Louis.

If anyone has any information about Brother Louis or graces granted through the intercession of this Servant of God, please contact Bro. Saviour Gatt, Vice-Postulator for the cause, at: saviour.gatt@maltadiocese.org or call on 99242499.
