The five winners of the 60th edition of the annual Golden Knight Malta International Short Film Festival, organised by the Malta Cine Circle, are the Greek animation “A Night at the Cemetery” by Stelios Polychronakis; the Brazilian documentary “Searching Heleny” by Esther Vital; the fiction entitled “Revelations” by David Allain from UK; the experimental production “June” by Dwayne Cameron from New Zealand; and “The Rat”, a fiction by Zhantemir Baimukhamedov from Kazakhstan.

Highly commended certificates were awarded by the festival jury to “Page’s Edge”, an animation by Isaac Camilleri from UK; “Two Knights”, a fiction by Piotr Szkopiak also from UK; the fiction “I’ll be Frank” by Carleton Rogers from Ireland; “Awama”, a fiction from Tunisia by Mourad Kalai; and “Like You”, a fiction by Marco Gosalvez from Spain.

This year marks the 60th edition of the Golden Knight. It has become one of the longest running festivals of its kind worldwide. Over the years, the Golden Knight built a high reputation and today is one of the most prestigious and highly regarded international short film festivals. This is truly a matter of pride for the Malta Cine Circle as well as for Malta’s film industry.

The members of this year’s jury, chaired by Carmel Bonello, were Rebecca Cremona, Joshua Cassar Gaspar, Paul Parker and Paul Camilleri. Every year, the festival jury awards a golden knight statuette to the best five participating productions. Highly commended certificates are awarded to a limited number of productions which are of a very high standard.

The 2022 edition attracted over 320 productions from 60 countries ranging from established film producing nations such as USA, UK, Italy and France right across to emerging countries from Asia, Africa, the Middle East and South America. Maltese productions regularly participate in the festival and, over recent years, they have achieved the high standards required to be placed among the winners.
The show of the winning films and the presentation of awards will be held on Saturday 19 November, at 7.00pm, at the Malta Experience theatre, Valletta. While admission is free, one needs to reserve seats by e-mail at bookings@goldenknightmalta.org or by calling 9946 0866.
