NWAMI International Malta (NIM) invites the public to embark on a cultural journey through the beautiful and intricate world of textiles at its November Culture Cafe titled Patterns of the World: Textiles & Culture. This engaging, hands-on event will take place on Saturday, 16th November at 10:30am at Ta’ Detta, Valletta Waterfront.
Led by Jane Paton, Head of NIM’s Culture and Community Unit, the event will explore the deep cultural, historical, and symbolic significance of textile patterns from around the globe. From vibrant embroidery to symbolic weaves, each pattern tells a story of tradition, identity, and geography. Participants are encouraged to bring their own textiles—whether cherished family heirlooms, unique designs from their homeland, or personal pieces with cultural significance—to share and enrich the collective storytelling experience.
This interactive session offers a unique opportunity to connect through textiles, bringing people from various backgrounds together to celebrate shared heritage through fabric. Whether you are an enthusiast, an artist, or someone curious about the cultural stories behind patterns, this event will immerse you in the rich world of textile artistry.
“Patterns in textiles are more than just designs; they are stories woven into the fabric of our identities. This Culture Cafe is a wonderful opportunity for people to come together, share their cultural narratives, and explore how these patterns connect us globally,” said Maria Gabriele Doublesin, President of NWAMI International Malta (NIM).
