Malta’s innovation ecosystem under the spotlight

Stakeholders from the fields of technology, science, industry, finance and education will gather for the first national event to be organised by the recently established EIT Community RIS Hub Malta. The Hub, established by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, aims to take innovation in Malta to the next level by providing a one-stop shop for those seeking to benefit from EIT Community opportunities in education, business creation and innovation.
This launch event will take place at the Hub’s premises at BUSINESSLABS Coworking Space in Birkirkara on 4 September 2024. It will examine the current state of the innovation ecosystem in Malta and how it can be strengthened, explore the real-life experiences of entrepreneurs in establishing innovation start-ups in Malta, and set out the policy and business culture changes that may be required to make Malta a regional hub for innovation. The conference will also provide an opportunity for attendees to network with representatives of the various Knowledge Innovation Communities (KICs) created by the EIT across Europe. These focus on Health, Food, Climate, Urban Mobility, Energy, Digital, Raw Materials, Manufacturing and Culture & Creativity.
Diana Miceli, EIT Community Officer for Malta, said, “The EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS) programme, supported with EU funding, is setting up hubs in those areas across the continent, including Malta, where the innovation ecosystem still needs further strengthening. Having begun operating earlier this year, the Malta hub has already made progress in fulfilling its mission to strengthen cooperation among leading business, education and research organisations. On 4 September I look forward to welcoming stakeholders ranging from Government entities, leading Malta based technology and innovation entrepreneurs, academics and colleagues from the EIT Community across the EU to our launch event, so together we can better understand the current situation in Malta and plot a better future. I invite anyone interested in this space to contact the hub for further details or register at https://shorturl.at/5Y3t0.”
