BOV CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH MUSICAL PERFORMANCES AND CONSERVATION PROJECTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES
As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Bank of Valletta takes forward its commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement with two upcoming customer outreach events. These events, featuring the renowned string quartet of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), will take place on Monday, 3rd February at The Basilica and Collegiate Proto-Parish Church of St. Paul’s in Rabat and Monday, 24th February at Our Lady of The Sacred Heart of Jesus Sanctuary in Sliema.

These initiatives build on the success of last year’s six outreach events, which brought communities together to celebrate Malta’s rich artistic heritage. Held across the island, these events combined music and the arts to create a meaningful connection between the Bank, its customers, and the wider community. Every event was linked to a significant conservation project to which the Bank had contributed, ensuring the preservation of Malta’s cultural treasures for future generations.
Speaking about these upcoming events, the Bank’s Chief Operations Officer, Ernest Agius, said: “Our 50th anniversary is not only a celebration of our history but also an opportunity to give back to the communities that have supported us throughout the years. These events allow us to preserve Malta’s artistic and cultural heritage while providing enriching experiences for our customers. Through initiatives like these, we are reaffirming our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and community engagement.”
The Rabat event will mark the launch of the restoration of nine 18th-century paintings located at The Basilica and Collegiate Proto-Parish Church of St. Paul. Meanwhile, in Sliema, onsite conservation work will begin on Giuseppe Cali’s The Triumph of the Immaculate Conception, an iconic apsidal painting at Our Lady of The Sacred Heart of Jesus Sanctuary. Both restoration projects are entrusted to PrevArti, whose expertise has been instrumental in preserving some of Malta’s most treasured artworks.
The February events will include a brief intervention by renowned restorer Pierre Bugeja from PrevArti, who will deliver an insightful talk about the restoration process, sharing the history and significance of the artworks that will be restored. Guests will also enjoy a musical performance by the MPO string quartet, adding an elegant touch to the occasion.
The Bank remains steadfast in its mission to foster a deeper appreciation for Malta’s cultural and artistic heritage. These events are a celebration of community, history, and the enduring values that have defined the Bank for the past 50 years. Everyone is invited to attend these events which start at 19.00 hours. Seating is available on a first-come basis and no pre-booking is required.
