An artistic voyage of colours at Esplora Interactive Science Centre

‘Southern Dreams’, an artistic exhibition by artist Paul Cassar, was launched earlier this month at Esplora Interactive Science Centre in Kalkara. The exhibition was inaugurated by MCST Chairman Dr Tonio Portughese.
Esplora collaborated with local artist Mr Paul Cassar because it believes in the importance of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics – a fast-growing industry that Esplora and the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) promotes and empowers in youngsters. as well as in adults.

‘Southern Dreams’ is an abstract exhibition of collective paintings, poems written by Cassar himself which are inspired from the art pieces, and sculptures in representation of the beauty of the southern colours.
During his inaugural address, Dr Portughese said that Mr Cassar, “ … has uncovered the intimate connection that he has with his childhood village, Kalkara, and the inspiration from the south of Malta, embellished with a rich heritage in the natural environment, landscape, archaeology, architecture and historical events.” He added that “Esplora and Bighi, in its originality, has inspired links to the artist’s childhood, upbringing and intellectual development in these unique settings.”

Mr Cassar explained that his interest in nature takes on a cosmic aspect and a representation of growth and life. He said that, “This exhibition is one where I play on home turf. Exhibiting my work at Esplora in Kalkara is special to me, as I spent my student years in the classrooms of Bighi.”
The media used for his pieces were acrylics and oils on canvas.
The exhibition will stay open until 9 April 2023.
