Lidl Malta Leads the Fight Against Food Waste During European Week for Waste Reduction

Championing Sustainability with Innovative Initiatives to Combat Food Waste

Lidl Malta, a leading discount supermarket chain, is proud of its participation in the European Week for Waste Reduction, with a special focus on reducing food waste. This year’s event aligned perfectly with the Company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and its Feed It Back initiative.

Lidl Malta is dedicated to addressing the global crises of food waste. This issue contributes to environmental degradation and food insecurity. By reducing food waste, the company aims to conserve resources, protect the planet, and ensure that everyone has access to nutritious foods. Lidl Malta has been a leader in this effort by investing in various projects directed at achieving this goal, including the launch of the Feed It Back project in 2024. This initiative donates surplus food to local charities and organizations, helping to address food insecurity while also minimising waste.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, Lidl Malta is committed to contributing to a more sustainable future. By participating in the European Week for Waste Reduction, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of reducing food waste and inspire others to act. We believe that together, we can make a significant difference in protecting our planet and ensuring a more sustainable future for generations to come” said Owen Micallef, Lidl Malta Director.

Lidl Malta’s Feed It Back project has already made a significant impact. With the participation of seven stores, the company has donated over 530,000 meals to those in need. This initiative is set to expand further, with plans to include all 10 stores. By joining forces with the European Week for Waste Reduction, Lidl Malta aims to raise awareness about food waste and inspire others to take action.
