Last week HSBC Malta Foundation commemorated its 25th anniversary by inaugurating the second phase of renovations at the newly revitalised Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park. To mark this significant milestone, the Foundation proudly announced that the number of trees and shrubs planted at the site since 2006 has reached 20,000.
Over the past 18 years, HSBC Malta Foundation has been steadfast in its commitment to environmental sustainability. The latest phase in the development of the site has seen an additional 5,000 trees, bringing the grand total to 20,000. This long-term initiative underscores the Foundation’s dedication to combating climate change and enhancing Malta’s natural heritage.
A commemorative plaque will be unveiled during the visit to celebrate this remarkable achievement and to acknowledge HSBC Malta Foundation’s continuous efforts in preserving the environment.
Geoffrey Fichte HSBC Malta’s CEO, commented, “Reaching this milestone is a proud moment for all of us at the HSBC Malta Foundation. Our commitment to the environment is not just about planting trees; it’s about nurturing a sustainable future for Malta. Each tree planted at Xrobb l-Għaġin symbolizes our ongoing dedication to fighting climate change and protecting our unique biodiversity.”
Vincent Attard, Executive President of Nature Trust FEE Malta stated “HSBC Malta, has always been one of the Corporate Partners supporting Environmental Commitment. Over the years HSBC has been supporting our organisation in Education for Sustainable development projects and supporting Biodiversity research and conservation. Another major milestone has been the great support towards the Climate Change issue which through its CSR, supported this issue and the work of NTM in this area. HSBC has walked the journey of the Xrobb l-Għaġin project from the start of its journey in 2004. It has contributed with a marvellous investment of 20,000 trees and shrubs as part of our natural heritage and for this we as NTM and the society should be grateful for such an honourable commitment by the bank.”
The Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park, renowned for its rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes, has greatly benefited from the Foundation’s efforts. The trees and shrubs planted over the years have not only enhanced the park’s natural beauty but also played a crucial role in supporting local wildlife, improving air quality, and providing a serene environment for visitors.
