BCRS Malta upgrades Jumbo RVMs to accept PET and aluminium containers in bulk

BCRS Malta, the licensed operator of Malta’s national Beverage Container Refund Scheme, has announced a significant upgrade to its Jumbo Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) across the Maltese Islands. Starting this month all Jumbo RVMs have been equipped with Comingle Compactors, enabling the machines to accept both PET plastic bottles and aluminium beverage containers in bulk.

This upgrade is intended to further improve the user experience and make participation in the scheme more efficient and convenient. By allowing PET and aluminium containers to be deposited together, the new compactors reduce handling time and simplify the return process, while maintaining the high standards of material recovery required under the scheme.

The enhanced Jumbo RVMs are available at ten BCRS Depots across Malta and Gozo, each of which is staffed by an on-site attendant to assist customers. These are located at Xewkija Industrial Park (Gozo), Bulebel Industrial Park, Hal Far Industrial Park, Marsa Industrial Park, San Ġwann Industrial Park, Kirkop, Luxol, Mellieħa, Salina and Ta’ Qali.

Commenting on the upgrade, BCRS Chief Executive Officer Alexander Galea said: “We are continuously listening to public feedback and reinvesting in the scheme to make it more accessible, efficient and easier to use. The installation of Comingle Compactors across all Jumbo RVM sites is another step towards improving convenience for participants, while strengthening the environmental benefits of the Beverage Container Refund Scheme for the country as a whole.”

BCRS Malta remains committed to the ongoing development of the scheme through operational improvements and infrastructure investment, supporting higher return rates and contributing to national waste reduction and recycling targets.
