Hospice Malta Staff Complete International Job Shadowing Programme Supported by Bank of Valletta

Several members of Hospice Malta’s care team completed international job shadowing placements during 2025 as part of the organisation’s ongoing investment in professional development, made possible through the support of Bank of Valletta.
The programme enabled Hospice Malta staff to gain first-hand exposure to best practices in palliative and end-of-life care through placements at leading hospices abroad. In October 2025, Nurse Carmen Carta, and Day Therapy Coordinator, Marthese Azzopardi, undertook a job shadowing experience at North London Hospice, where they observed multidisciplinary approaches to patient care across a range of clinical and therapeutic settings.

This was followed in November 2025 by a second placement at Isle of Man Hospice, attended by Community Nurse Jaqueline Borg and Community Care Coordinator Christine Zammit. During their time there, participants engaged with hospice professionals delivering community-based services, gaining valuable insights into care coordination, patient support and service delivery outside the inpatient environment.
The job shadowing initiative forms part of Hospice Malta’s broader strategy to continuously enhance the quality of its services by learning from established international providers. The knowledge and experience gained through these placements are being shared internally and will help inform the ongoing development of Hospice Malta’s clinical and community care services.
Bank of Valletta and the BOV Foundation have been supporting Hospice Malta for a considerable number of years and it ’s support has been instrumental in making these international learning opportunities possible, reinforcing the bank’s commitment to supporting healthcare excellence and professional development within the local community.
Further building on this initiative, Hospice Malta has already confirmed another job shadowing placement scheduled for February 2026, when members of its team will undertake a similar experience at Northern Ireland Hospice.
Hospice Malta provides free palliative care services across Malta and Gozo to patients suffering from cancer, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, as well as advanced cardiac, respiratory, kidney and liver conditions.
As the organisation continues to expand its services, individuals interested in joining Hospice Malta’s multidisciplinary team are encouraged to visit www.hospicemalta.org to view current vacancies and learn more about opportunities to contribute to this essential work.
