MGDF holding awareness events
Last weekend, the Malta Guide Dogs Foundation held an awareness event on Tritons Square in Valletta on the occasion of International White Cane Day.
The aim of the event was to spread information, with the aid of live demonstrations, about visually impaired persons in Malta, their mobility and the challenges related to them. This falls squarely within the aims of the Foundation, whose function is to train the visually impaired to become independent in their mobility, through the use of the white cane and guide dogs.

The event, which to the Foundation’s satisfaction was visited by many, including the Minister for Inclusion, Julia Farrugia Portelli, as well as the Opposition spokespersons on disability, Graziella Galea, consisted of a walk-through experience showcasing the abilities of the visually impaired in general, the use of the white cane and guide dog handling.
The message that the Foundation wanted to send out is that persons, despite their visual impairment, of course with proper training and the right attention from the community to eliminate obstacles rendering the surrounding environment inaccessible and dangerous, can definitely become independent in their mobility.
A new brand identity for the Foundation was also revealed to the public for the first time.
The awareness event is being held once again on Saturday 29 October 2022 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the same venue.
