INCONTRI – a collective art exhibition for a good cause

‘Incontri’ is an art exhibition that brings together four artists and four unique artistic expressions. It is also the meeting point of local and foreign visual artists. ‘Incontri’ is, above all, the place where art meets science and research. The exhibition is being held at the Valletta Campus of the University of Malta and is being organised in collaboration with the Research Trust (RIDT) of the University of Malta, with proceeds going towards brain research.

Emanuele Ventanni and his son Samuele come from Umbertide, a province of Perugia in Italy. They are both visual artists who express themselves in painting and sculpture. Enzo Giummarra, who is a photographer, also from Italy, was born and lives in Comiso (Ragusa) in Sicily. Josette Fenech is a Maltese painter who works and lives in Mellieħa.
This collective exhibition demonstrates the artists’ diverse visual, stylistic, iconographic, technical and technological preferences. Part of the concept of this art show is to show and to display a selection of the works by these artists who embrace diverse poetic expressions and interests.
The exhibition is being curated by Dr Louis Lagana and will be open to the public from Saturday 9th April till Friday 22nd April.

Artists’ Profiles:

Josette Fenech is a Maltese artist who works on various themes ranging from landscapes, seascapes, figures and abstract works. In her recent abstract collection the artist works on large canvases and expresses a more emotional state rather than the mere experimentation with colour and form. The artist participated in many collective art exhibitions in Malta and abroad and held three personal art shows on the island.

Emanuele Ventanni was born in Umbertide (PG), Italy and started painting at a very early age. Like other Italian artists he started drawing and painting the landscape, the human figure and other subjects inspired by nature and his immediate environment. He frequented the Art Institute of Sansepolcro and then in Perugia (1976). Apart from his many art projects in Italy, in recent years, Ventanni created a unique style and technique by painting hyper-realistic portraits and figures on very large wooden panels.

Samuele Ventanni who is the son of Emanuele Ventanni, is an Italian visual artist of the young generation also from Umbertide a province of Perugia. He also started as a painter, but later he developed an innovative approach in constructing abstract installations in fabric, wood, plastic, leather and other soft material. His embossed designs both geometric and irregular motifs express artfulness and sophistication.

Enzo Giummarra who comes from Comiso (Ragusa) in Sicily entered the world of professional photography way back in the 1990’s. He is a prolific photographer and works on a wide range of subjects with his unusual technique in colour digital photography. Particularly impressive are his latest series of works which are derived from figurative imagery and transformed into highly abstract compositions. The artist also admires and photographs architectural renderings of Baroque buildings in his native town in Sicily.
