FinanceMalta, the private-public initiative that promotes financial services in and outside Malta, made a contribution to the Marigold Foundation to be used for a noble cause. The donation, which was collected from corporate and affiliate members of FinanceMalta during the 6th Annual Winter Networking Reception, will be passed on to the Action for Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) to partly fund their newly set up service offering psychological support to breast cancer patients and their families and carers.
The service, which will be offered by professional psychologists at ABCF’s new premises in Mosta, will start in the new year.
The donation was presented by FinanceMalta Chairman Kenneth Farrugia to the Marigold Chairperson Mrs Michelle Muscat, in the presence of Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness And Economic Growth Hon. Dr Joe Herrera and ABCF Chairperson Mrs Esther Sant.
“FinanceMalta is very active in promoting Malta as a centre of excellence for financial services and it is doing sterling work in attracting this business to Malta which leaves a healthy return to the economy. However, in our zealousness to see this industry grow, we ensure that we support members of the community who can benefit from our corporate social responsibility,” said Mr Farrugia.
Mrs Muscat said the Marigold Foundation was set up with the purpose of raising funds to help organisations that provide the right support to members of society who are facing challenging times.
Mrs Sant said she is honoured that ABCF has been identified as the beneficiary of this donation at a time when the organisation is marking another milestone in the services it offers. “As ABCF, under the focused and determined direction of the late Helen Muscat, we have lobbied to improve the quality of life and the level of service offered to breast cancer patients. In the unfortunate circumstance that an individual is diagnosed with breast cancer, they are very vulnerable and cannot feel they are just a number in the system. For this reason, we felt it was time for ABCF to offer professional support to these patients and their families to empower them to face this challenge. The money received from FinaceMalta through the Marigold Foundation will be used to offer these professional services. This means that each patient, irrespective of their financial situation, will be able to benefit from the service.”
Dr Herrera thanked the members and FinanceMalta for the energy they are putting in the financial services industry which, he said, is a solid pillar for Malta’s economy as it offered a high-level and high net worth service in a small space, which is ideal in a country like Malta.
