DHL Express plane pull for l-Istrina

DHL Express has teamed up with the Phoenix Sports Club to organise Plane Pull Malta, under the patronage of the President of the Republic, to raise money for l-Istrina.

Plane Pull Malta is being held on Monday, 31 March, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Safi Aviation Park (Gate 8).

As Charles Schiavone, Manager of DHL Express Malta, explained: “This is a first for us, with a DHL Express Boeing 757-200 Freighter aircraft being used. This is a plane that weighs around 130 tons.

“To ensure maximum safety throughout, the plane’s engines will be on and there will be an engineer in the pilot’s seat since he will need to apply the brakes. In addition, there will be another engineer on the ground.”

Anyone wishing to take part in Plane Pull Malta is advised to download a form from the Facebook page Plane Pull Malta, fill it in and bring it along on the day.

According to Orlando Bonnici, President of Phoenix Sports Club, members of the public can either form a team or simply turn up as an individual and they will be put into teams.

“The challenge is to pull the plane for 20 metres. Once this is accomplished, another team will be invited to pull the plane for 20 metres, so we are confident that a good number of teams will be given the opportunity to achieve this feat.”
