we care LIVE launched in Valletta

Elderly persons who live alone and other individuals seeking peace of mind who wish to live independently and continue with their normal, daily lives can benefit from a new service, we care LIVE, launched today (Monday, 30 September).

Perit Konrad Bezzina, Managing Director of We Care Ltd, announced the innovative service during a ceremony on Great Siege Square, Valletta, in the presence of Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia and Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Aging Franco Mercieca.

The service, a joint venture with Handson Systems Ltd, combines a state-of-the-art pocket-sized device that uses a GPS and links through GSM networks to a call centre that operates 24 hours a day seven days a week to enable users to be in touch wherever they are.

Customer care operators at we care LIVE have been given extensive training, including in First Aid, backed up with sound professional guidance to enable them to handle any emergency situation and provide the first assistance that any user may require.

Geoffrey Farrugia, Managing Director of Handson Systems, gave a demonstration of the device, which not only has a Panic button to alert the we care LIVE call centre but also a motion sensor so that, if the person falls, the call centre is also alerted. Using GPS, the specific location of the device holder is communicated not only when the device holder is at home but wherever that person is in Malta and Gozo.

Ambassador Anthony DeBono, Chairman of Handson Systems, recalled his experience in the public health ministry over a decade in the 1970s and 1980s, and also his involvement in the introduction of mobile telephony when he was CEO of Telemalta: “These two important sectors, which were so predominant in my career, were conspicuous because they led to the launch of innovative services of benefit to society. Today it is with great pride that I am here for the launch of this potentially life-saving device designed by Handson Systems, which through its joint venture with We Care Ltd, can make a difference to so many people and their relatives,” he said.

With this new device, we care LIVE is promoting active aging, more independence and, most importantly, continuous peace of mind while ensuring that one’s relatives are constantly in touch in emergency situations.
