Survivors featured in international magazine
Joe Smith’s highly successful book Survivors has been given extensive coverage in the international photographic magazine Black and White Photography.
When the editor of the magazine Elizabeth Roberts saw Joe’s book she immediately contacted him to set up an interview over Skype and asked for some images in preparation for the feature.
Joe was interviewed by Max Houghton who is Course Leader of MA Photojournalism at Westminster University. She has edited eight magazine for the past six years, and writes about photographs for various international magazines and websites, including Foam, the BBC, the Daily Telegraph’s culture hub Telephoto and Black and White Photography.
Ms Houghton described the project as “a noble commitment that freezes time for a second, preserving it, and a generation of memories, in magnificent monochrome”.
Incidentally the author has just published the second reprint of the book and copies are available from various outlets and from the author himself.
Joe is presently working on the second volume of Survivors as there are more stories in Birgu waiting to see the light. For volume 2, Joe is working with videographer Jean Pierre Gatt who is shooting “behind the scenes” footage that, together with snippets of live footage of the interviews, will eventually be included in a DVD that will be part of the volume 2 package.
