Mġarr Marina launches floating platform

The Mġarr Marina in Gozo added a new attraction to its 240 berths – a floating platform. The 120-sqm structure lends itself perfectly to enhance leisure and entertainment possibilities at the upgraded marina and Żewwieqa Waterfront.

The platform, which took over 300-man hours to build and set up, is reachable from land, by sea and is also towable to any desired location. Its purpose will increase the potential of the embellished Żewwieqa Waterfront in Mġarr to provide leisure facilities and accommodate small to medium events, like fashion shows, wine tasting and food pairing, fireworks displays and an intimate set-up for dedicated corporate events.

“The aim of the platform is to create an area for business opportunities around the Żewwieqa Waterfront,” said Gennaro Xerri, General Manager of Harbour Management Ltd, operators of the Mġarr Marina. “Boat owners and the general public can benefit from this installation as an area of  recreation and entertainment where events can be organised afloat in a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by water and scenery of yachting life. We are excited with this extension to the marina as the opportunties it offers are multiple.”

This is another investment of Harbour Management Ltd in Gozo.  Since 2010, Harbour Management has invested over €2.5 million in the upgrading of facilities in Mgarr Marina by replacing the old underwater anchorage systems and replacing pontoon installations.  The government has re-generated the area by refurbishing and embellishing the Żewwieqa Waterfront and surrounding areas.

“Harbour Management is looking forward to further investment which will include a superyacht facility that can cater for vessels over 50mt in length,” said Mr Xerri.

The first event on the platform was held by the Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC) who after their regatta held a entertaining barbecue evening afloat. There were some 60 yacht owners, crew and regatta participants from 10 boats forming part of the RMYC at the event.

Harbour Management Ltd  is part of the Melita Marine Group, established in 1989, specialising in various sectors in the maritime industry, from superyachts, to refitting, repairs, engineering and chandlery,  oil and gas and power generation.
