Why are we waiting?

In all the furore over Nicola’s choice of expression and the fact that a young journalist lost his job, a lot of people seem to be forgetting that the whole crux of the Austin Gatt-FW incident had to do with whether Arriva is giving us the efficient bus service we were promised.

Like you, I have heard a lot of complaints from people who actually use the buses, particularly in the south of Malta. One of the hardest hit towns is, apparently, Fgura where I was told that people are left waiting for much too long.

I asked photographer Joe Demanuele to take a few photos to see if this is true, and at 7.35am this morning and despite driving through the main areas, he reported that it was not as bad as people are saying.

The photo above is  of a bus stop in Paola where people wait for buses going to the Three Cities.  In Joe’s own words, “There was a lot of chaos with a large number of buses stuck in traffic but nowhere did I see any huge groups of people waiting.”

So, has there been an improvement (perhaps as a result of of Nicola’s outburst) or was this simply a fluke?

Are commuters being unreasonable in their complaints simply because “we love complaining” or is the anger justified?

You tell me.
